Welcome to The Licensed Vocational Nurses Association of Texas

The Licensed Vocational Nurses Association of Texas (LVNAT) was founded in 1950, initially called the Practical Nurse Association of Texas until becoming LVNAT in 1951, the same year LVNAT was incorporated by the state of Texas. The year 1951 also saw the Vocational Nurse Act signed into law in the state of Texas, providing for the State Board of Vocational Nurse Examiners to license vocational nurses through examinations (what we now know as the NCLEX-PN).* The first group of vocational nurses became licensed in 1952. Since that time, LVNAT has been the voice of LVNs in Texas.

The Objectives of LVNAT

  • Establish continuing education programs
  • Provide and assure the highest quality of training to LVNs
  • Establish and maintain standards of integrity and honor
  • Survey the LVN resources in the state
  • Promote the contribution of LVNs in health care
  • Protect the practice of vocational nursing
  • Maintain an effective legislative program in Texas

The Benefits of LVNAT

  • Members receive LVNAT's quarterly newsletter, The Nurses Headliner, and a newsletter of local division activites.
  • Members receive professional legal counsel and legislative advocacy on matters of professional concern, Safe Harbor and Peer Review.
  • Dues include membership in local divisions, with rights of voting and holding office, and participation in CERP (Continuing Education Recognition Program).
  • LVNAT members pay reduced fees to participate in the annual convention, certification programs, professional training, seminars and workshops.
  • Scholarships available for Vocational Nursing students.
  • TPAPN (Texas Peer Assistance Program for Nurses)
  • LVNAT approves CNE's for the Conventions, Division meetings, and different companies who provide CNE's for LVNs.
So never lose an opportunity of urging a practical beginning, however small, for it is wonderful how often in such matters the mustard-seed germinates and roots itself.
